From the platter pushing poppas of the 1950's to the beatmixing mixmasters of today; the Disc Jockey has been the mainstay of the airways. They are ever present at club scenes, weddings, and parties of all occasions. From vinyl to compact disc, from systems to software, from lava lamps to lasers, Dj equipment can range from simplistic to bombastic.
The basic Dj setup for a party or wedding consists of a dual-Cd player and a Dj mixer that fades in one Cd's song from the dual player as the other fades out. Also, a sound system ranging from a 500 watt to a 1250 watt amplifier, and a set of 12" Dj speakers with the accepted wattage output. A microphone to interact with the crowd and announce songs would unblemished the technical needs of an up-and-coming Dj. This is all rounded out by the cables and wires needed to tie it all together. Most importantly though is a crowd pleasing inventory of music on compact Disc.
Turntable Platter
To pump out the jams on a larger scale for night clubs, discos, or raves, you're going to need to turn up the volume on the Dj equipment. A 5500 watt to a pulse pounding 50,000 watt amplifier with 15" to 18" accepted wattage Dj speakers increases the decibels for sure. For the club scene, you need the all-important pair of headphones for spoton cueing of music management, there's no room on the dance floor for a fumbling Dj.

Now that the basic Dj equipment is in play, let's add more equipment and accessories to build a good Dj:
- Vinyl records are considered the best musical medium by most Djs. A phonograph turntable is principal for playing vinyl records, as well as writhing up scratching or chirping sounds while spinning the narrative back and forth under a well-controlled needle; stock up on cartridges and needles!
- Since the introduction of vinyl emulation software, a laptop computer can contribute tools to manipulate and playback Mp3 files using original vinyl turntables or Cd players that use timecoded vinyl records or Cds. Storing your music on a computer's hard drive in effect beats lugging around crates and crates of albums. You can also add digital hardware for the manipulation of Mp3 files on a laptop or Pc. The latest plug-in is for the manipulation of music videos in the same manner as music. Djs are now Mp3Js and Vjs.
- Some Djs add electronic effects equipment for delay, chorus, and reverb, to name a few. Drum machines and electronic keyboards are also a popular add-on to Dj equipment.
- Extraordinary lighting like strobes, lasers, lava lamps, and moonflowers give the awesome blaze of exhilaration, especially when personally orchestrated to the music.
- Don't forget the mirrored disco ball for added twirling and twinkling of lighted beats. This ball is not just for the disco any more.
- Enhance your lighting show even added by adding a fog or haze machine. Can you dream more fun than endless bubbles being blown non-stop from a bubble machine? Make your own snow all year round, and indoors yet! These machines will help create your very own signature spectacle for total being stimulation.
There is limitless availability of Dj equipment both online and in music stores. You can build an awesome system in effect piece by piece. More technological advancements are production the Dj a unblemished party container with less and less bulky equipment. It's apparent that with minimal venture an aspiring Dj with the "right stuff" could yield big profits. Unfortunately the "right stuff" can't be bought.
The Spin on Dj toolSnoopy vs. The Red Baron - Alan Moorhouse - Tunes for Dancing Tube. Duration : 1.83 Mins.Another version of the Snoopy record to go with the Royal Guardsmen 45 and the great one that Jon (GarrardAT6) has recently posted. This is a military march type cover version by Alan Moorhouse and His Bond Street Brigade, from the LP, "The Beat Goes On, 20 non-stop Tunes for Dancing". It dates from 1974 and is on the Music for Pleasure, Sounds Superb series. I have another Youtube channel devoted to music arranged for dancing (Ballroom, Latin etc.) featuring records from the 78rpm era upto the 1970s. Here you will find Victor Sylvester, Geoff Love, Alan Moorhouse, Joe Loss, Sydney Thompson and many more, including lots of rare dance school records! If you like this kind of thing, the channel is called "RetroBallroomFun". The turntable here is my Rega Planar 2 - a car boot sale find a couple of years ago. It is a proper hifi turntable and is fitted with the Ortofon LM10 cartridge. It sounds superb, but is a bit of a faff to use, as you have to take off the platter and move the belt to change speed! Hope you enjoy it.
