The Great History Of Dj equipment

A Dj and tool go hand in hand and have since 1906 when the first ever-broadcasted song hit the airwaves. In 1909 the first radio Dj was born, Ray Newby at age 16 broadcasted songs from Herrold College of Engineering and Wireless off a small spark transmitter. Twelve months later, radio transmission grew to come to be the 'in' thing broadcasting all from music to comedy shows, information, and sport activities.

It was not until 1935 that the phrase "disc jockey" was defined by Walter Winchell using disc as reference to the record and jockey the operator of the tool utilized to playback the music. The introductory time a Dj performed live was in 1943 when Jimmy Savile deejayed the worlds' first dance celebration in England at the Loyal Order aged Shepherds. Playing a number of jazz songs, Savile was the first ever to use twin turntables to have constant play. The same year disco was created once the worlds first disco opened, the Whiskey a Go Go in Paris, France broadcasting recorded music starting the spread of discotheques throughout Europe and the Usa.

Turntable Platter

The 50s' introduced the Djs' to sock hops and platter events spinning 45 rpm records and as element of the Dj tool you might have seen a live drummer playing some beats to keep the party hopping. Nightclubs and discos prolonged to grow straight through the 60s' bringing new Dj tool like the mixer. The beat-matching and slip-cuing methods arrived in 1969, which started the style of the seamless transitions by matching beats between tracks and the issue of a record onto a rotating turntable at just the appropriate occasion for exquisite transitions.

Turn-tablism hit the Djs' repertoire in 1973 once Djs' began producing their own music by manipulating the sounds of the music. The Technics Sl-1200 turntable made its introductory appearance in the Dj world in 1974 and by 1979, the Mk2 version of the Sl-1200 grew to come to be what remains a stable in quite a few Djs' appropriate equipment. Hip-hop Dj Grand Wizard Theodore gave birth to the scratch technique by accident in 1977. Since then quite a few forms and kinds of scratch have been developed. The Eighties introduced compact discs to the Dj tool in expanding to digital drumbeats. Although digital drumbeats have been colse to since the starting of the 30s', as technology industrialized and house music broke to the forefront is when the digital drumbeat started production it big in the Dj world.

The mid Eighties also brought on the techno music bringing with it, synthesised instrumentals. Since the Eighties, there have been quite a few additions to the romance between Dj and tool with some of the best contemporary sound tool such as the Sound to Light Dmx Control. Now Djs' can not only feature their mastery of sound but also turn it into art in motion. The Sound to Light Dmx operate adds to the entertainment that Djs' already generate providing their crowd even more to rave about. A Dj and tool could in no way part; their love affair has grown straight through the years and plainly keeps getting stronger with each and every new advancement.

The Great History Of Dj equipmentMy new 1958 RCA Victor 6-EY-3A "Victrola" suitcase record player Video Clips. Duration : 4.23 Mins.

Here is my new 1958 RCA Victor 6-EY-3A "Victrola" suitcase record player. It has an RP-190 changer mounted inside which is hooked up to a two-tube amplifier and a 6-inch speaker. Unfortunately, it has seen better days. A lot of the vinyl covering, or "wallpaper" as it's jokingly called, is coming off, and a long line of it from the "NIpper" logo all the way down to the feet is there, straight down to the wood. The platter turns, but the tonearm mechanism doesn't seem to want to work whatsoever. The record doesn't want to drop either. When I turn on the player, the speaker gives off a loud, uncontrollable hum. Simply means the condensers and filter need to be fixed, cleaned, or replaced. The tubes work great though! It has a tone control knob and a volume control knob next to the turntable. All in all, a very cool piece of 1950s history, and it will look and sound great once it's fixed. Enjoy!

The Spin on Dj tool

From the platter pushing poppas of the 1950's to the beatmixing mixmasters of today; the Disc Jockey has been the mainstay of the airways. They are ever present at club scenes, weddings, and parties of all occasions. From vinyl to compact disc, from systems to software, from lava lamps to lasers, Dj equipment can range from simplistic to bombastic.

The basic Dj setup for a party or wedding consists of a dual-Cd player and a Dj mixer that fades in one Cd's song from the dual player as the other fades out. Also, a sound system ranging from a 500 watt to a 1250 watt amplifier, and a set of 12" Dj speakers with the accepted wattage output. A microphone to interact with the crowd and announce songs would unblemished the technical needs of an up-and-coming Dj. This is all rounded out by the cables and wires needed to tie it all together. Most importantly though is a crowd pleasing inventory of music on compact Disc.

Turntable Platter

To pump out the jams on a larger scale for night clubs, discos, or raves, you're going to need to turn up the volume on the Dj equipment. A 5500 watt to a pulse pounding 50,000 watt amplifier with 15" to 18" accepted wattage Dj speakers increases the decibels for sure. For the club scene, you need the all-important pair of headphones for spoton cueing of music management, there's no room on the dance floor for a fumbling Dj.

Now that the basic Dj equipment is in play, let's add more equipment and accessories to build a good Dj:

  • Vinyl records are considered the best musical medium by most Djs. A phonograph turntable is principal for playing vinyl records, as well as writhing up scratching or chirping sounds while spinning the narrative back and forth under a well-controlled needle; stock up on cartridges and needles!
  • Since the introduction of vinyl emulation software, a laptop computer can contribute tools to manipulate and playback Mp3 files using original vinyl turntables or Cd players that use timecoded vinyl records or Cds. Storing your music on a computer's hard drive in effect beats lugging around crates and crates of albums. You can also add digital hardware for the manipulation of Mp3 files on a laptop or Pc. The latest plug-in is for the manipulation of music videos in the same manner as music. Djs are now Mp3Js and Vjs.
  • Some Djs add electronic effects equipment for delay, chorus, and reverb, to name a few. Drum machines and electronic keyboards are also a popular add-on to Dj equipment.
  • Extraordinary lighting like strobes, lasers, lava lamps, and moonflowers give the awesome blaze of exhilaration, especially when personally orchestrated to the music.
  • Don't forget the mirrored disco ball for added twirling and twinkling of lighted beats. This ball is not just for the disco any more.
  • Enhance your lighting show even added by adding a fog or haze machine. Can you dream more fun than endless bubbles being blown non-stop from a bubble machine? Make your own snow all year round, and indoors yet! These machines will help create your very own signature spectacle for total being stimulation.

There is limitless availability of Dj equipment both online and in music stores. You can build an awesome system in effect piece by piece. More technological advancements are production the Dj a unblemished party container with less and less bulky equipment. It's apparent that with minimal venture an aspiring Dj with the "right stuff" could yield big profits. Unfortunately the "right stuff" can't be bought.

The Spin on Dj toolSnoopy vs. The Red Baron - Alan Moorhouse - Tunes for Dancing Tube. Duration : 1.83 Mins.

Another version of the Snoopy record to go with the Royal Guardsmen 45 and the great one that Jon (GarrardAT6) has recently posted. This is a military march type cover version by Alan Moorhouse and His Bond Street Brigade, from the LP, "The Beat Goes On, 20 non-stop Tunes for Dancing". It dates from 1974 and is on the Music for Pleasure, Sounds Superb series. I have another Youtube channel devoted to music arranged for dancing (Ballroom, Latin etc.) featuring records from the 78rpm era upto the 1970s. Here you will find Victor Sylvester, Geoff Love, Alan Moorhouse, Joe Loss, Sydney Thompson and many more, including lots of rare dance school records! If you like this kind of thing, the channel is called "RetroBallroomFun". The turntable here is my Rega Planar 2 - a car boot sale find a couple of years ago. It is a proper hifi turntable and is fitted with the Ortofon LM10 cartridge. It sounds superb, but is a bit of a faff to use, as you have to take off the platter and move the belt to change speed! Hope you enjoy it.

RCA Dynaflex: vinyl that bends

RCA Dynaflex: vinyl that bends Tube. Duration : 4.65 Mins.

Dynaflex bends like the notes of the Hawaiian guitar. RCA claimed many advantages of pressing a thinner LP when they introduced the process in late 1969, touting it as "the record of tomorrow," but it was really just a way to make cheaper records using less vinyl, especially on their "Camden" budget label. Critics derided the flip-floppy LPs, citing high surface noise and a tendency of the record to warp under the weight of its own sleeve and shrinkwrap. The discs were also not suitable for use on portable record players with a smaller than LP-sized platter. RCA eventually ended production of Dynaflex LPs around 1980. For this video I used a very basic Optimus LAB-1000 turntable with its built-in pre-amp, equipped with an Audio Technica P-mount cartridge and elliptical stylus.

Throughout our endless hours of research, to our surprise, we found that Amazon no ifs ands or buts have the best price (0 + Free Shipping) for this professional player, for a very minute time. Just by descry at this awesome Cdj, you can pretty much know all the features it comes with. It's very similar to Cdj 400 (which has fewer features) and Cdj 1000 (which is more developed model). You can plainly get in a in in the middle of which is Cdj 800. Unlike Cdj 800, Cdj 200 (great for Beginners) does not have the awesome scratch highlight that every professional Dj need. Over all, this player is an excellent choice if you were finding for a player within your budget, yet have the whole highlight every Dj needs.

If you have experienced with other Cdj before, you may not even need to open the by hand which come with your player, because the switches are super user friendly and their functions are pretty much self-explained. However if this is your first one, you may find it difficult to get start on cutting those fun tracks, so this is where the by hand comes handy. You can also find tons YouTube Videos, that other Dj's shows you how to mix beats, cutting tracks, and many other sound effects. I highly recommend that you take your time on study them, this will not only help you getting the best and excellent performance, but also help you take your Dj skills to the next level.

When comparing Cdj200 and Cdj 800 in terms of jogging wheel, you can have more fun with 800, because of the extra starch feature. Cdj 800's jogging wheel is way more sensitive than the Cdj 200. It takes combine institution to get it right. The main presume for this is the wheel is light weight, very sensitive to the request for retrial of your finger tip. So, just listen, practice, and institution it some more to get it just excellent for your taste. Believe me, it's a lot of fun. Over all, this is a great player for beginner and intermediate Dj's.

For the citizen who are just planning for 800 version but do not have a budget, you might be okay with the 200 Cdj player. However, if you got the money, I strongly recommend you to get Cdj800. This is the right equipment with many Dj friendly hi-tech features. Once you get used to the jogging wheel motion, it becomes your best friend during performance. Mixing, cutting, and sound effects becomes so much easier, the vinyl Dj's will be so jealous. Be a serious Dj get 800 series and institution to take your performance to your consummate level. So you can get more gigs, and get paid more.

As a companion, Pioneer Hdj-1000 Dj Headphones, is a must have along with Cdj 800. It has consummate sound quality, so you can clearly hear the base while other track is playing straight through your speaker. For maximum protection of your investment, we also recommend 2 X Pioneer Cdj 100/800/5000 series coffin case which has wheels and cooling fans. There are number of other cases that improve the farranging look of your Digital turntable, but I recommend that you buy the best. The best mixer go with this set up is Pioneer Djm-400 Pro Dj Mixer, but the only downside is it has only 4 channels. For 8-channel mixer, we recommend Pioneer Djm-800 Pro Dj Mixer.

Erratic Motor Behavior Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB

Erratic Motor Behavior Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB Tube. Duration : 1.48 Mins.

So this strikes me as not a normal thing for a turntable motor to do, right? I just got this via UPS today from Amazon. With the platter on, it seems to spin at the right speed, as indicated by the strobe, but when you actually play a record, a knocking from the motor is audible. I've never had a turntable with a removable platter before, but is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I put the nut on to exaggerate the effect. You can't see it but I switch from 33 to 45 rpm and back again. Same thing at both speeds. EDIT: For a discussion of this problem, see www.audiokarma.org It's been established that "cogging" is normal for a turntable. However, audible knocking through speakers is not normal, which is why I was wondering about this motor behavior.
